Strengthening Agricultural Value Chains and Rural Livelihoods
Agriculture plays a central role in livelihoods, food systems and rural economic development. Syagga and Associates Limited’s Agriculture, Agribusiness and Rural Development thematic area focuses on supporting initiatives that improve agricultural value chains, promote commercial opportunities, strengthen food security and address the challenges facing rural communities.
Our service framework recognises the connections between agricultural production, markets, rural infrastructure, climate conditions, financial services and household livelihoods.
Our specialist services
Agricultural Value-Chain Analysis
We support the assessment of agricultural value chains, examining relevant stages from production and aggregation through processing, distribution and market access. Such analysis can help identify operational constraints, market opportunities, coordination gaps and potential areas for improvement.
Agribusiness Commercialisation
We support analysis and planning related to the transition from subsistence-oriented or informal agricultural activity towards commercially viable enterprises. Depending on the assignment, this may include business model assessment, market analysis, enterprise development planning and identification of commercialisation opportunities.
Food Security
We support studies and assessments that examine food availability, access, utilisation and related livelihood factors. Findings can inform food security programming, agricultural planning and interventions intended to strengthen household and community resilience.
Irrigation
Our thematic coverage includes irrigation-related development. Relevant assignments may involve assessment of irrigation needs, agricultural water-use considerations, project feasibility and the relationship between irrigation, agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
Rural Livelihoods
We support analysis of livelihood systems, economic activities and factors affecting the welfare and resilience of rural communities. Such work may inform development planning, programme design and initiatives intended to improve livelihood opportunities.
Climate-Smart Agriculture
We support initiatives that consider the relationship between agricultural productivity, climate variability, natural resource management and resilience. This may include assessments of climate-related agricultural risks and analysis of approaches appropriate to local farming systems.
Agricultural Insurance
We support analytical and advisory work relating to agricultural insurance, including consideration of agricultural risks, the needs of farming enterprises and the role of insurance within broader risk-management strategies.
